Day Five
12.12.2008
Day five in Costa, and I think I never am going to want to leave. Initially I thought I would want to live in San Jose, but I left after two days there and headed to the Pacific side, so I think that perhaps it's not the city for me. I think that it was on the shuttle from San Jose to Tamarindo, that I fell in love with this place, probably when I saw a bunch of macaws just hanging outside a little shop where you buy chips and other snack items. Or maybe it was when I discovered that beer here costs a dollar. The country is so diverse so far from what I've seen, as far as altitudes, climates, scenery...truly amazing. At first I was a bit stressed out that I didn't have any real plans on what I was going to do because almost all of the other travelers that I have met thus far have these intricate plans on what cities they are going to, what they are going to do, how long they staying at each place...whereas I have only been planning two days in advance. Now I have a loose plan, I am planning on traveling around Costa Rica for a month or so, seeing the places on my mental to do list, picking my favorite city and trying to make it work. I am excited to see the Caribbean coast, I was planning on starting there but I was forewarned of floods so I decided to see the Pacific coast first. Its been pretty interesting to see how everyone seems to have a really strong preference of the Pacific side over the Caribbean side. I am pretty stoked to stalk all of the well-known and lesser-known beaches around here. As far as my Spanish, I am thinking that I'm going to have to venture outside of the touristy areas to actually get any better. In San Jose and Tamarindo, almost every time that I have greeted someone with Hola they respond in English. My dialectically challenged greeting appears to be less than convincing. Though when I've asked someone a specific question in Spanish they respond in Spanish. Often I haven't known what their response actually meant, so I just smile and nod. Until next time, peace out homies.

Hi Julia,
You're in Costa Rica!! Wow, I didn't even know you had left Wisconsin. Fun to see your pictures of Tamarindo. Our hotel was El Jardin del Eden - nice restaurant. Have fun!! Aunt Dede
